These bloodless technocrats have no loyalty to country nor any sense of how their actions affect the individual, whether the individual is American or from a poor country. They're evil.

Just re-read that Larry Summers memo. It was more chilling the second time around. That Brazilian official was right on the money. Interesting that he got fired shortly after he responded to Summers by saying:

"Your reasoning is perfectly logical but totally insane... Your thoughts [provide] a concrete example of the unbelievable alienation, reductionist thinking, social ruthlessness and the arrogant ignorance of many conventional 'economists' concerning the nature of the world we live in... If the World Bank keeps you as vice president it will lose all credibility. To me it would confirm what I often said... the best thing that could happen would be for the Bank to disappear."

Perfectly logical but totally insane. These economists have got to quit committing sociology. Time to sharpen the tines on the old pitchfork...
