Company Press Release
Iomega Reaches Major Milestone With Shipment of 30 Millionth Zip Drive
ROY, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 3, 1999--Iomega Corporation (NYSE:IOM - news), a leader in smart, portable storage solutions, today announced 30 million Zip© drives have been shipped worldwide. Iomega first introduced the innovative parallel port external Zip© 100MB drive in 1995, and it was immediately met with enthusiastic reviews and won numerous awards from industry publications and trade groups. At present, more than 30 million Zip 100MB and 250MB drives and more than 180 million Zip disks have shipped worldwide.

``We're seeing a very healthy demand for the portable storage market and expect that to continue over the next several years,' said Fara Yale, chief analyst at GartnerGroup's Dataquest. ``With 20 million high-capacity flexible drives sold worldwide in 1997 and 1998, we expect this number to grow by more than 80 percent in the 1999 through 2000 time period.'

The Iomega Zip© drive quickly became one of the most popular consumer electronic products introduced in the PC market. There is now an Iomega Zip 100MB drive available for virtually every type of computer connection including external parallel port, SCSI, USB (for PC and Macintosh) and PC card connections, and connections for internal notebook, ATAPI and IDE interfaces. More than eight million Zip drives have shipped since the first of this year.

``With 30 million Zip drives shipped worldwide, users can feel comfortable knowing they can be compatible with virtually anyone, anywhere. The Zip drive has changed the way people work by providing a robust platform to share, exchange, archive and transport information,' said David Henry, vice president and general manager of magnetic products, Iomega Corporation.

The Iomega Zip© drive is the only portable storage solution that is widely available at most leading service bureaus and business centers including AlphaGraphics, Kinko's and Sir Speedy. Zip drives are used at home and work and have become a popular choice for any Windows- or Macintosh-based computer.

Iomega Zip© 100MB drives can be found as a standard or optional feature in PC models from most leading desktop manufacturers and from many notebook PC manufacturers, including Acer, Apple, Compaq, Dell, Fujitsu, Gateway, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, IBM, Micron, NEC, Sharp and Siemens. In addition, the notebook Zip drive is available from CNF Technologies for notebook computers manufactured by Compaq, IBM and Toshiba; and from VST Technologies for notebook computers manufactured by Apple and IBM. Iomega branded notebook Zip drives are now available for certain IBM, Toshiba and Compaq notebook computers. Iomega's licensees NEC and Matsushita also manufacture and sell ATAPI Zip drives.

Extending beyond the PC to any product with a need for high-capacity removable storage, Zip© drives are also available for a group of non-PC products, including stand-alone scanners, printers and set-top boxes.

About Zip© Drives and Disks

Iomega Zip© drives and genuine 100MB and 250MB disks offer an easy to use solution for consumers to move, protect, use, share and backup information on their computers. Fast enough to run business and multimedia applications, the Zip drive brings a new level of performance to today's powerful personal computers. The Zip 250(TM) drives also read and write to Zip 100MB disks, ensuring that current customers who use the new Zip 250 drive still have the ability to share information with family, friends and colleagues. Both the Zip 100MB and 250MB drives both now come with USB connections, with faster downloading and transfer rates.
