Mike,
Hi!!
RE: How many years has it been that the other box makers said that they would go direct like Dell? How is it that Dell can have a cost structure that is so far ahead of the competition, even Gateway who is direct? To throw salt on the competition, Dell is planning to further reduce their costs by 50%

Tough to say exactly how long...I can remember Mike Kwatinetz on CNN telling everyone: "imagine where DELL will be in five years while everyone is attempting to emulate their model"...During the last conference call we had a great quote from Tom Meredith which he also repeated for the Gardner brothers (FOOL)....to paraphrase: "DELL has the ability to leverage any competitor they wish and we can push them when and where we want to..." BTW...the boys asked him what message he would send to CPQ since they were going down there that week to interview CPQ...Using that quote a second time made me feel very confident about the rumors I've heard concerning CPQ...
Also, it is comments like this that really makes me bullish...DELL has been using some very uncharacteristic lines in describing the strength of their model and the future of the company...No where do I find quotes like this in the past ....The price obviously hasn't reflected this new aggressive language...Be patient...The talk is not just talk...

Best, Kemble
