I loved the Shipping News. I thought that was the BEST book. Every man has three women in his life- SUCH a good line.

Yes, Annie Proulx wrote Shipping News. I'm the same way when a book wins a big award, especially the Pulitzer. I tend to get a contrarian reaction. But I think in the case of that book she deserved it. It seems like a bleak yarn, taking place in Newfoundland in the winter and all, but quite a few people who aren't given to hype have said its a great book. I almost didn't read All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy because it won the National Book award. I'm real glad I went against my first instinct because that was one of the best books I've read in recent years.
