RE <<<The stock showed good strength at the end today. Do you see any difference between the current run up and the recent two very brief run ups we had?>>>

Goutama, yes I see a subtle difference. The last move up was much more volatile....I knew it would not hold. This is much more solid...if you look at an AMD daily chart, the moves up look like stairs. Daily volume has been up too in the past two weeks. Half way thru the trading day, today, AMD was experiencing average volume; in fact, I commented on it in an earlier post today. However by the end of the day, AMD had had above average volume. That, to me, signals that there is institutional buying.

In addition the last move was very quick; it happened in 4 or 5 days and then it was over. Plus at that time it was above the center of its MACD line whereas this move up started below center, a much harder way to go....in fact the center line was crossed sometime between yesterday and today. When that crossing occurs, it is considered very bullish in TA. I know little about what forms the MACD other than it is made up from the 50 day and 13 day moving averages.

The only thing that will kill this move is negative guidance by AMD on 11/11.....and if its positive, a two pointer day is more than likely.

The other run up was very emotional and probably included substantial short covering as a component of the thrust. Overall, it turned out to be a net negative. This one is not over yet.

STAY TUNED!!!!

Goutama - RE: "The stock showed good strength at the end today. Do you see any difference between the current run up and the recent two very brief run ups we had?"

It seems like the stock is going up steadly instead of jumping a point or two at one time. I think this week we had three 2% up days and today's 3.65% up day.

Is this good from a TA perspective?
