There is a group of SI members that waste their time looking for message numbers that they think are meaningful or pretty or something. The Grubbwatch figure is the total number of messages on SI. Occasionally, one of these meaningful numbers comes up, like 1000000, 2000000, 3000000...10000000, 11111111, 12345678.

Sometimes they will even go for the message number on a specific thread. Here is one example of a crazy yahoo going for 100,000 on the DELL thread.

These grubbers should be scorned, not worshipped like demigods as some are prone to do.

Don't let JXM fool ya. He takes his grubbing as seriously as the next guy. He's just jealous of gems like #reply-4000000 or, one that was once near and dear to SI Bob's heart (note the thread on which it appeared) #reply-5555555.
