Play it again ........Nasdaq Bubble Reaches 3K
Greed Is Good
November 03, 1999
by Aaron Bunnell

Wednesday, the Nasdaq closed above the 3K mark for the first time in history, at a plump 3028.55
(+46.92). But the tech-heavy index may be poised for a holiday harpooning, as talk of future
interest-rate hikes infiltrates the Street. The Dow added 27.22 to 10609.06.

The Basics: Advancers stomped decliners 23-to-16 on the Nasdaq, as a robust 1.3 billion shares
were traded. On the NYSE, winners edged losers 17-to-14 on volume of 906 million.

Big Picture: Is a Nasdaq 3,000 sustainable? Prudential market guru Ralph Acampora says to look for
a wide trading range. "It appears that this market will be punctuated with sharp rallies and quick retreats
over the next several months," he wrote in his daily market outlook.

Big Boys: Qualcomm (QCOM: +35 11/16, 260 1/2) surged nearly 16 percent after it posted
better-than-expected Q4 profits on Tuesday and set a 4-for-1 stock split.

Intel (INTC) added 2 1/16 to 79 1/2 after Merrill Lynch analyst Joe Osha reiterated his $100 price
target and "buy" rating on the stock.

Disclaimer: A personal share. Got a message today from my broker for account where have most of the Q I own. When I called him back he said he just wanted to congratulate me on QCOM (and to lesser degree JDSU). He acknowledged that it was my pick and it was a great one. That was all. Very nice of him.

What he did not mention, and maybe did not remember. Two days before the first ERICY news came out he called me to discuss the account. He had good things to say about all stocks (most of which he had recommended and which were doing well) but QCOM. His comment was - this Qualcomm is not moving, you've made nothing on it, and I think you should dump it - or words to that effect. My immediate response, being the good student of G. Gilder that I was (fyi - at that time I had not yet discovered this thread and Gregg, et al) ws absolutely not, and gave him a short list of reasons why. Two days later the rocket began its launch.

I like the guy, appreciate many of the recommendations he has given me and respect him for calling me today. But I do wonder if I would have gotten a call if I followed his advice.
