Charley,

There are certain American institutions that should be attended and the Mardi Gras is one of them.. Others that have come to mind are the Rose Bowl festival, the World Series and the now I guess the Super Bowl. I have been to the former two, never the latter two.. I doubt if I ever see the the Super Bowl.. I don't care that much..

From my point of view, one should also stand on the highest point in the country, Denali, and the lowest point..
Never did the former but the latter.. Did climb Mt. Ranier though, up a tough side.. close but no cigar.

Back to the Mardi Gras, we did have an interesting experience, my wife and I and our friends, another couple we travelled with..An "equal opportunity" good looking, scantily dressed lady groper got a hold of all of us on the elevator of the Bienville House where we stayed .. WOW! I was like a deer caught in the headlights, I was unable to stop it..hahaha.

Having volunteered as a pro bono lawyer during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, I promise you they would have done nothing more than process you and boot you out the jailhouse door, once you'd sobered up.
