I was thinking about that incident last night and you are exactly right, JFred.
<<<that nerve and the artery are in there deep. And when someone manages to jab the nerve you will certainly know about it. About the intensity of hitting your crazy bone only it hurts like hell.>>>
It was a blood gas test. Right. Kind of funny having a good memory and then people around you being senile, isn't it.
"Arterial blood gas."
So they have to go for the artery, not a vein.
They're "down in there," hiding, sensibly, so people don't poke them. And so that if you spring a leak, near the surface, you can last longer.
Well, the fukker missed it.
Very much like the crazy bone; but I would say half a magnitude, or maybe a full magnitude higher.
I had a pain in my back once, that paralyzed me; that hurt.
And there was one night with the heels where if I'd been able to inhale I would've been screamin. But the hit that blood gas needle made was shocking. I admit my instinct was to take a swing at the person, to get them away from me. Both of those were worse than the surgery where afterwards I didn't get morphine.
Do they HAVE to hit that fukker, with that caulking tube needle, to "know where they are"? I don't think so. I have news for them, it isn't them in there, it's a honkin needle, and a bunch of nerves, and it's ME. ("Hurt me, and I'm going to hurt you." Why don't I think to start them with that?) I'm sticking by my theory that pervert sadists go into the arterial blood gas collection specialty.
I was explaining that last hip surgery to my cousin. They opened up three inches of flesh, cut intervening muscle (don't want it tangling in the drill) (yah; literally; I asked them), and drilled four or five holes over three inches long. Like to put dowels in. The holes are about 5/16ths inches diameter. Is that about a thirty-two, or thirty eight caliber bullet? Anyway, the wound was in some ways similar to being shot four times, and then not getting any morphine. It hurts. Does it hurt bad? Yah. A bit beyond my most intense tolerance. I was getting violent.
That one Pissed Me Off.
Fortunately the hip is not as "nerved" as some parts. (I never seem to know what those are, till one is wrecked. Like the feet. Back is bad. Ow.)
Pain really is a tolerance deal. And why should it be testing your sanity, your very existence, if they have drugs right there for ya? For that very fukkin purpose? They're not hurting.
They don't care! They don't get it! YOU need the drugs, out of the dispensary! The chemicals! The Stuff! For this! These bullet holes! "PUT DRUGS IN BODY!!! NOW, YOU STUPID BITCH!!"
But, it still didn't leave a memory like that needle thing. I guess we're agreed on that one. It was a sooper-dooper.
Oh ~ but I forgot the tops of the feet, having them sliced crossways, so needles can be inserted (repeatedly ~ they have to go in the lymph system I think, and they have to do it over and over, tweaking the needles, until they find it) ~ that one hurts too. I had no idea. Thanks to The Man. The guy doing it was the first idiot I'd run into, and he said a local wasn't necessary. I'd like to kill him. Seriously. Or beat the crap out of him. Physical violence, for a wake up call. Then he got distracted talking to another doc, endlessly, about how much money he could make if he'd invented this dye; that he could be retired already; and their spots in Caribbean no less, and he fukt up the procedure and had to do one leg twice. What was supposed to be 20-30 minutes, according to him, was 2 1/2 hours. He let me know he hates this procedure, chewed out the nurse when she did what he told her not to and dislodged something (I felt sorry for her), and actually told me the reason he hates it, besides difficulty, is that he can't bill enough for it.
I hope he's dead, or in a painful car crash. The burn ward maybe.
The burn ward is where the pain is, as I understand it. (Spoken of reverentially.)
Still, if we total up his patients, fair is fair.
Note: Thank you for this steam venting opportunity. Pain hurts. |
