You're dead right - but only in the final three years or so when most went broke or were taken over by the market leaders. The competition when it came was prodigious and it was from Japan.

But that was not the complete end of the story and the Swiss made a come back with its Swatch.

During those 10 to 15 years the Swiss Franc went from 12 to the Pound to 2 or 3 (probably less against the dollar).

My point, though, was that a rising currency takes some time before its effect becomes lethal.
