Vertel and IBM Team to Offer Advanced Network Management Solutions for the AIX Platform WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 17, 1999-- Vertel's Industry Leading TMN Development Environment to be Offered as Part of IBM's OSSC Development Suite Vertel(R) (Nasdaq:VRTL), a leading global provider of management solutions for telecommunications networks, today announced a joint agreement with the Global Services - Federal Solutions department of International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) to develop and market a new suite of development tools under the company's Open System Standard Communication (OSSC) product line. Under the new agreement, IBM will incorporate the full line of Vertel's TMN development products into its AIX operating environment. IBM and Vertel will jointly market the new AIX-based OSSC product line, sharing royalties and license revenues. The joint marketing agreement was finalized in September 1999 and integration of the Vertel tools into the AIX environment is near completion. First offering of the new OSSC development solutions is expected by January 2000, with a number of potential customers expressing early interest in the product line. IBM's new OSSC solutions will feature Vertel's TMNTelecore Agent Development Environment (ADE) and Manager Development Environment (MDE), plus Vertel's Agent and Management Simulators. These additions will enable telecommunications and network equipment manufacturers, as well as carriers and service providers that design networks using TMN standards, to utilize the strengths of the IBM AIX platform to develop and host carrier-grade network management solutions. "We are engineering our next generation of OSSC solutions to enable carrier-grade AIX-based network management systems for both packet and circuit networks," said Ed Poole, OSSC product manager, IBM Global Services - Federal Solutions. "The addition of Vertel's TMN development environment into our OSSC suite offers AIX-based developers greatly enhanced performance, reliability and scalability that will allow them to realize carrier-grade capability." "We are delighted to be partnering with an industry leader like IBM to bring high-performance, standards-based development solutions to the AIX platform," said Alan Ehrlich, director, TMN product management, Vertel. "The AIX development community has been looking for a truly reliable network management solution and Vertel products have a proven track-record of meeting the stringent requirements of both the enterprise and the telecom industry. It's a win-win partnership." The new OSSC product line will help streamline the development and deployment of multivendor, carrier-grade network management solutions within the IBM-user community. "Our partnership with Vertel has been crucial to quickly and successfully bringing this product suite to market," said Poole. IBM plans to incorporate additional Vertel products into the OSSC line in the future. About Vertel Corp.
