Hi Mardy,

I am a voting member of IEEE 802.11, and can assure you that
intellectual property matters were considered in the selection of
modulations for .11a and .11b. There is a letter from Wi-LAN on
file stating they will comply with the IEEE's position on IP and
provide reasonable and equitable access to their patent.

COFDM, VOFDM, WOFDM, etc., will be successful in the market, IP not withstanding. Not in devices powered by AAA batteries, but on
desktops and entertainment cabinets.

The race is to reduce the baseband processor to ASIC, and
then combine it with a [1394/802.11/Hiperlan2/...] MAC, and
first results are about nine months away...
