I don't even know if you could call this hypocrisy. It just demonstrates the shallowness of his thinking. He never gets past the slogans. Bet his brain hurts for a week now.

Beatty is a dope. But compared to Alec Baldwin he is Solon.

Well, I totally disagree with his point, and the fact that he even brought it up almost means he hasn't given it much thought.... but I don't think the person in the audience that asked the question about hollywood quite gets it either.

Hollywood has it right... they pay people what they're worth demands, or they try to approximate it. The old studio system used to be what Beatty is describing where the CEOs made all the money and locked the actors and players into a rigid salary structure via contracts, etc. Music was like that too with Motown, etc. and to some extent non-high tech business, where workers worked for a salary but not equity - right? However these days stock option packages for almost every worker have really levelled the playing field, so if you are a star engineer you can negotiate for 1-2% of a company, etc., it is not just the CEOs getting rich anymore, what is he complaining about? The equity markets are breaking open the old boys network of venture capital too so everyone has a fair opportunity for capital. He's arguing the issues of some prior decade.

I don't like Beatty anyway, to me he is the WORST of all worlds - liberal on the fiscal/business issues and now conservative on social issues - blechh!
