My questions around the arbitrage were more to do with the effect others doing it might have for us longs as December 29 approaches. I don't plan on doing it myself (no guts?) even if I could work out a way to do it.

BTW, Al's plan of simply selling commons to buy Ps is not equivalent to the arbitrage, as it doesn't protect against the price of the Ps going down. Maybe that's not so likely at the moment but it is still a risk. The arbitrage works whatever happens to the prices since, after the conversion, I end up with free shares.

Yes a beer would be nice. When do you think you will be in town? I'm away from tomorrow until November 17th.

Something I've started doing lately, particularly with BB stocks, is put in GTC limit sell orders way above the current price. I am told that by doing this I can prevent my shares being borrowed by potential shorts. If everybody did this together it might cause a short squeeze?

Now I don't even know if this actually works. However, I can't see a downside, except to get filled at some high price!

BTW, if you ask your broker about this you may be told that there is a limit to how high the limit price can be. For example, I was told that if I put a limit price more than 30% higher than the current price it would be rejected. Well, I did this with several stocks over the net, with limit prices between 5 to over 20 times the current price and every one was accepted.
