Bringing Down the Market
By James J. Cramer

11/4/99 10:37 AM ET

Beware of how easy it is. It may be too easy. There are people today who want this market down. Badly. There is massive put-buying in EMC Corp. (EMC:NYSE), IBM (IBM:NYSE), Intel (INTC:Nasdaq) and Cisco (CSCO:Nasdaq) again. (I am long the last two -- bummer -- but I call them as I see them.)

When I see this kind of tenacious put-buying (How do I see it? As a professional, I monitor this stuff), I get a little nervous given how far we have come. I think that at some point today, people will try to trash the market, coupling some negative tech stories -- hence the put-buying -- with the rumor of a major upside in the employment report.

As the latter has been around for a while, it is probably getting a bit discounted in the bonds. The tech raid, well, let's just stay tuned.

See also my request to DOU: is there a transcript (I don't have time to listen to the archived call) of the webcast online? I am specifically interested in the word "struggling"; is this something with which Joe Osha came up, or is this a word Mr. Bryant is using? -mb
