rud "Any predictions on when DELL will produce a 64 or 128 processor machine? That's what it would take to compete with UE10000. I think it is wishful thinking on the part of some DELL boosters to think that Sun's turf is easy pickings, or that Intel architecture will be ready to tackle that any time soon."

what percent of the business market are we talking here for the next year? mostly less than 10% excluding IBM; and 95% of Dell's growth has come from the non-competing UE1 products - so Sun has a window; but the size of the window is comaratively small when you consider that needs to address broadband system termination will be the all determining factor by 2001. Sun's current line-up doesn't adequately address that; nor does anyone - the field here is yet level. i certianly believe that IT managers will be focusing much more of their attention, beginning next year, on the broadband issues; Dell can win here - at least MD states they can. MD states they are "preparing" to win the broadband race. there is little current reason to believe they can't do this.
