There are many levels on which to discuss the issues of aging. My flip response was ( I think ) appropriate to the discussion at a national level, which is were we tend to stay on these threads. On a personal level, I have an 80 year old mother. I also know some lonely elderly people and sick people and do much less than I can and should to make their a little better. I think the bulk of what can be done for people must be done person to person. That's hard. Dumping it off on government programs seems easier, but just makes things worse.
