Hotel room bio-key pilot at the Conrad Hilton Hotel school in Houston, Texas, from today's Toronto Star:

"Biometric identification technology, which turns a thumbprint into a room key, is already available. Guests provide their print (thumb or finger) when checking in. Housekeepers and other hotel staff use their own prints for general access to rooms.

"The lock has a memory, so it can keep track of who has accessed the room and when. That is raising hotel security to new heights.

"The stumbling block to installing a 'bio-lock' system throughout a large hotel is cost. Business travellers on the executive floors of five-star hotels will likely be the first to see it in action."

No word on who the supplier is. I would bet on IDX, because I think they have a large lead in access control bio-ID systems.
