a Tosca leaping off the parapet- and bouncing back into view...

I believe it was Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake actually. I think there was a particular performance some years ago where they placed a slightly too live trampoline to catch them at the end as our hero and heroess dive into the lake to drown themselves and break the evil spell, and both their heads bounced back into plain view of the theretofore weepy audience. Though of course I could be wrong.
