Hi Tony,

You are so, so right:

>These guys are treating Y2K as if it were a permanent albatross,
instead of almost over.

Y2K is not almost over, its already over for some companies and governmental bodies. As I recall hearing on the radio last month, maybe the very end of September, Y2K has already started in the state of Maine. Only one glitch occurred: people who were sent the forms to pay a yearly (or whatever) registration for their cars got forms printed off for "horseless carrige" instead of "car or truck." This error was fixed within less than half an hour.

I regretted not living in Maine when I heard that. I would have loved to have received one of those forms to frame.

P.S. I just got a new order of checks from Schwab this afternoon. These are my first "Y2K ready" checks--no "19__" on the Date line. Which makes me wonder what will happen when people who have checks with preprinted, "19__," on the date line just put "00" after it instead of crossing off the 19 and writing 20.

P.S. 2 (since you saw my EMC posting): If you sign up for one of those free email addresses, I wouldn't be surprised if you can still get a userid of Tony :)

P.S. 3: SI must be having problems. I'm having one heck of a time getting this posted.
