Well stated comments Frank.

As I have said in the past, your knowledge of topology management is leaps ahead of mine. I do agree that some form of SONET will be around for a time, but I have heard some moving and shaking regarding something new on the horizon. I will fall over if it is the "containerization using SONET formats" you mention – I had not thought of that. That puts a simple migration path in place.

QoS is also ready to die (as soon as we can get comprehensive big bandwidth to the curb) and would fall in line with a "containerization". My view is that QoS is merely a way that the old-line behemoths are keeping existing clients faithful. However, the day will come when the customers realize that they have been abused by what they thought to be a sign of care.
