General Electric to float a 100% infotech subsidiary in India

US-BASED General Electric (GE) is setting up a 100 per cent wholly-owned subsidiary which would execute its plans in the information technology (IT) sector, both in India and abroad. While in terms of investment, the company is relatively small, the fact that GE is converting its new venture into a base for the IT business the world over, is significant. This, analysts say, reflects GE's view of India and the potential it holds in this emerging segment of industry. (11/05/99-ET)
