A commentary on Q from the Mercury News, Silicon Valley's favorite paper:

Stock of the day

Shares of Qualcomm Inc., leading the Standard & Poor's 500 index this
year, rose to a record after the company said profit more than quadrupled
and it set a 4-for-1 stock split. San Diego-based Qualcomm rose $35.69
to $260.50. The stock has surged almost 10-fold this year, giving the
company, which developed the world's second-most popular cell-phone
technology, a market value of $41.8 billion. The company said earnings
will increase in the fiscal first quarter from the fourth quarter, with
shipments of its wireless phones and chips again forecast to reach
records. Qualcomm expects royalties from its code-division multiple
access, or CDMA, technology to climb after doubling in the recent
quarter.
