Johnd, that is another reason to buy the options again on Monday if the volatility drops. Maybe enough people are unloading their shares and want to protect against a run away stock if that occurs after the announcement. I had sold recently and bought the Nov 100s just for that reason. However, i have now started buying back the shares.

"implied volatility will drop"

not necessarily. like one's mortality the announcement is inevitable so with each passing week the likelihood of an announcement in the following week increases. so if anything the implied volatility could increase each week there is no announcement.
