The quarter ended last week. The MMCN issue would relate to the January quarter. I don't think CSCO will miss consensus expectations for the now completed Oct qtr. Nevertheless, the stock could get "socked" as you put it if forward guidance is disappointing.

Drug issues, not-so-expensive tech
stocks garner analyst attention
November 04, 1999: 12:11 p.m. ET

NEW YORK (CNNfn) - Not-so-pricey tech stocks and
the merger-livened pharmaceutical industry are in
favor among money managers and analysts
Thursday. Here are some of the stocks recent guests
on CNNfn are buying and why:

Courtney Smith, chief strategist, Orbitex
Management, is bullish on tech -- but not so thrilled
about the wallet pinch of hefty stock prices.

"I [would] stay away from the big-cap names:
Microsoft (MSFT), Intel (INTC), [or] Cisco (CSCO),
simply because I think their valuations are too high,"
Smith said. "Cisco's a great company, I actually have
it in portfolios that I manage, but at 80 times
earnings, I'm not ready to go out and be a buyer of
this company."

---------------------
based on this... we better get some VERY good earnings or folks are gonna sell it off figuring CSCO is overvalued

I just don't believe it, Jean. In fact, I put my money where my mouth is today. Cisco will meet or exceed like they always do. Although, you may be right about the unearned revenue stuff. Cisco is just to dependable for me to think that they will slow down so suddenly after last quarter's acceleration.
