Hey c'mon, oilfield trash are not without charm. You were in Placquemines Parish too. I heard the sheriff of that parish was one bad dude. All the stereotypes of southern lawmwen were true in his case, or so rumor went.

At least you could buy shrimp on the cheap.

Doing anything in Louisiana in July without air conditioning is unimaginable, but living next to oil rig roughnecks is awful to the second power. My powers of intuition suggest that, coming from New England, you just couldn't imagine how hot it was, and so thought it would be ok without an air conditioner. I grew up before air conditioners were common, and everyone used fans, but I'd never go back to those days voluntarily. One more item on the list of consumer necessities that keeps expanding.
