For the ultimate game machine, put all the periferals, printer, scanner, etc on the old machine and tie them together by an ethernet cable. That way you can still print or whatever but you're games fly at ultimate speed. Alternatively, if you use cable modem, the old machine can act as firewall since you are really left open to the hackers when you remain online continuously otherwise.
