Becton Dickinson & Co. (BDX: news, msgs) announced after the market closed that fiscal fourth-quarter revenue increased 7 percent to $902 million from $843.2 million in the same quarter last year. The company posted net income of $76.3 million, or 42 cents a share excluding charges, directly in line with the consensus estimate. The company makes medical supplies and devices used by health care professionals. Shares closed up 2 5/16 at 28 3/16.

Netopia (NTPA: news, msgs) announced after the market closed that it posted a narrower-than-expected loss in the fourth quarter as sales more than doubled. The company lost $355,000, or 2 cents a share. Analysts expected Netopia to lose 6 cents a share. Shares closed up 7/16 at 56 11/16 and moved to 61 in the after-hours session.

Starbucks (SBUX: news, msgs) shares may perk up Friday. The company said, after the market closed, that sales in the four weeks ended Oct. 31 rose 34 percent to $146 million from $109 million. Same-store sales in the same period rose 8 percent, year-to-year. Shares closed down 1/16 at 26 9/16 but moved up to 28 1/8 on the Island ECN.
