I agree with you however the side effects are horrendous. As a myeloma patient who's been using thalidomide since early September I've started to see some positive results on my counts. I've also suffered just about every side effect that's listed in Celgene's safety data.

I'm sure many people who don't have cancer may take the view that a few side effects are worth it if the disease is cured. At this point no researcher including Barlogie is talking cure. I don't think that thalidomide will be the magic bullet. It will be used to delay the start of chemotherapy as is the case with me. It will also be used for refractory patients.

For the cancer patient managing side effects becomes a quality of life issue. It's still significant to see how effective this drug has been.
