[GST Telecommunications Names Thomas Malone as Chief Operating Officer]

VANCOUVER, Wash., Nov. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- GST Telecommunications, Inc., a leading Integrated Communications Provider (ICP) in California and the western United States, today announced the appointment of Thomas Malone as chief operating officer.

As chief operating officer, Malone is responsible for directing the Company's strategic business units -- including operations, engineering, product marketing, and customer service -- and integration of acquisition and legacy business units into GST's core ICP operations, to ensure the attainment of the Company's sales and profit goals.

"I am pleased to welcome Tom to our senior management team," stated Joe Basile, president and chief executive officer of GST. "His extensive background in data and Internet communications, as well as his experience in managing the growth and development of business units, and next-generation service offerings, clearly complements GST's strategic vision. Tom's contributions will be key to GST's continued success, especially in the core ICP markets where we are driving solid sequential growth in local, data and broadband services."

Malone was previously chief executive officer of Pick Communications, an innovative provider of satellite-based broadband Internet services and multimedia content. Under Malone's leadership, the company launched broadband and satellite-based broadband Internet services, divested two business units to reduce its liabilities by approximately $10 million, and raised or restructured a total of $15 million in assets.

A 20-year industry veteran, Malone has also held senior management positions with Cable & Wireless USA, a $1.6 billion telecommunications provider. As president of the company's Internet, web-hosting, and messaging division, he was responsible for the integration and management of a 500-employee Internet business acquired from MCI, as well as all aspects of the division's sales, marketing, engineering, operations, and customer service. Malone previously served as senior vice president and general manager of two Cable & Wireless business units, where he conceived, launched and managed SureCom, an international fax and Internet mail delivery service. Over six years Malone grew SureCom's annual revenues, developing positive cash flow and high profitability.

Malone also has extensive experience in business development, marketing, strategic alliances, product management, and sales with Cable & Wireless, Sprint International, and CompuServe.

"I am eager to join GST, and believe that the Company is well positioned to capitalize on the opportunities in the data and broadband sector," stated Malone. "GST has the vision and the tools to prosper, and I look forward to contributing to the Company's growth and success."

Still fighting its way up, even on a down day for the overall market.

The 50-day chart (http://www.techstocks.com/~wsapi/investor/chart?s=gstx&pts=50&span=Days) suggests some resistance at 8.5-9, but then "smooth sailing" up to 11+. any TA-literate folks care to expound?
