Andrew, I have an Inspiron--believe it's a 7000---purchased one year ago. Beautiful machine, absolutely no problems with it. I suspect your problems may be related to Windows 98. Try reloading 98 from the CD. Phil

OT to Andrew:

I work at a large company that leases a significant number of Dell laptops. When my LCD screen failed the IT folks said "oh yeah, we've had to have Dell replace about every one of the LCD panels in that model". Another IT person noted today that "I've seen alot of Dell laptop problems, but none with our IBM Thinkpads". I didn't do around and do any survey, but it did include my boss next door with the exact problem. I don't see this limited info as being reason to sell your Dell stock though, other than it's overpriced :') ..As per my service problem yesterday, IT called the Dell manager and was quite direct. He showed up today and redid it along with a new motherboard/processor. I got the impression the guy who screwed it up yesterday might be looking for another job after his boss saw the handywork firsthand.

Best Regards,
John Stewart
