A voice of reason on the idiot thread:

It matters little because GUMM got what it wanted, national coverage of their product. I doubt that the withdrawal of the article will get on the front page of even one newspaper or make it to the evening news.

Pffft: "GumTech Article on Nasal Spray Withdrawn From Medical Journal Woodland Hills, California, Nov. 5 (Bloomberg) -- GumTech
International Inc. said an article on a nasal spray used to
flight colds, which it markets in a joint venture, is being
withdrawn from publication following publicity about the study.
The article on nonprescription nasal spray Zicam was to be
published in the February issue of the American Journal of
Infection Control. The article was withdrawn because of the early
release of data and other issues that failed to comply with the
Journal's policies and copyright regulations, GumTech said in a
statement.
Shares of GumTech rose 18 percent Monday after the company
said the study was due to be published. GumTech rose 1 1/8 to 18
yesterday.
Zinc-based Zicam appears to cut the length of cold symptoms
by about two days, Woodland Hills, California-based GumTech said.
The spray sells for about $10 a bottle. It is marketed by Gel
Tech LLC, a joint venture between Phoenix-based GumTech, a maker
of chewing gum designed to provide health benefits, and closely
held BioDelivery Technologies Inc.
