The PPI intermediate figures from last month did not look that bad. However, I think the longer term numbers looked a bit worse but they will have more time to disperse into the marketplace.

In some of the labor settlements, the increase in pay was around 3 percent. I thought that was fairly calm.

Oil made a lot of noise and is now flopping around. I also think there was Y2K buying of commodities and other items--just in case.

For these reasons, I am beginning to speculate that the inflation scare is not all it is cranked up to be. I would expect the other 4 to 6 billion or so humans on this planet to disagree with me. However, I am looking for signs that I may be on to something.
