Gemstar News:

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- TeleCruz Technology, Inc., developer of high-performance embedded circuit and software platforms for interactive televisions, today announced the receipt of an investment from Gemstar International Group Ltd., (Nasdaq: GMST) the leading provider of electronic programming guides (EPGs).

This investment expands the existing business relationship between TeleCruz and Gemstar. Last January, TeleCruz signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Gemstar under which Gemstar's EPG technology will be incorporated into TeleCruz's proprietary Cruzer(TM) platform.

Gemstar's investment is a part of a $17 million round of financing, which also includes funds from Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), CrossLink Capital partners and The Zeron Group. Prior to this latest investment, TeleCruz received first- and second-round financing from leading venture capital firms such as Robertson Stephens, IVP and Fuji Bank.

"Gemstar's EPG technology is one of the cornerstones of the Cruzer platform," said Kris Narayan, Chairman of TeleCruz Technology. "Gemstar's investment is a vote of confidence in our ability to deliver a cost-effective solution that integrates interactive applications into our embedded chip and middleware design."

Along with EPG technology, the Cruzer platform will enable a wealth of enhanced broadcasting services for the mass television market, including email, online chat, instant messaging and interactive programming. By supporting all these services on a single chip platform embedded in the user's television set, TeleCruz plans to deliver Web-enabled television to digital living rooms.
