Qwest to offer Calif. broadband service
DENVER, (Reuters) - Qwest Communications International Inc. said Thursday it would offer high-speed Internet service in four California markets next year.

The company said in a statement that it would start offering broadband high-speed services to Los Angeles business customers in the first quarter of next year.

They will be able to use the QwestLink local access network to transmit Internet, data, image and voice communications directly to the Qwest nationwide fiber-optic network.

Clients in Sacramento, San Diego and San Jose/San Francisco will have access to the services during the second quarter of 2000.

The California cities will be the first connected to the QwestLink local access network that will span 25 U.S. cities.

Qwest said it planned to add more than 100 jobs throughout California to help complete the expansion of the network.

Qwest will offer fixed wireless services with its strategic partner, Advanced Radio Telecom Corp. (NasdaqNM:ARTT - news).
