ATHM-related weekend reading First, here's the link to the Dow Jones article provided by E. AT&T currently is fighting suits by Internet providers who are arguing that AT&T, by owning cable lines to so many homes, has a broadband monopoly. They want the courts to give every provider equal access to the customer over those lines. But in Tauzin's proposed world, Internet providers would have to lay their own lines to homes or build wireless delivery systems. "We ought to have more lines, not people fighting to regulate the only line available," Tauzin argues. "There are bills in Congress to regulate cable again, this time as a monopoly provider of broadband services. It's stupid that we should ever be in this position when it makes much better sense to take down the barriers that prevent other competitors from being out there. Let consumers decide the winners and losers rather than us in Congress." Finally, there's a special report on "Investing in the Virtual Office" and the difficulties of obtaining a high-speed link: <http://interactive.wsj.com/archive/retrieve.cgi?id=SB942462548670014923.djm> Barron's Online November 15, 1999High-speed Internet connections to the home are all the rage But just try getting one By Bill Alpert Sorry for not posting the complete articles - not laziness but observation of copyright.
