You may be right about sideways, Limtex. And I might consider selling some more of my position, facing tax consequences, and getting more heavily into Qualcomm. As stupid CNBC said tonight, the future is wireless. However, remember that there are many lurkers on SI, and some of them are relative "newbies", and they may panic when they see a post about the 50s. So just try to be a bit careful for the sake of those reading these threads. Jill

Suppose that when he makes his conclusions of law and determines the penalty, the judge throws the book at Microsoft -- he breaks up the company into several different companies. Great! I was just a kid in the early 1980s when AT&T broke up, but I believe that T shareholders at the time received all the new companies' stock and eventually made a killing. Breaking up AT&T into regional divisions makes about as much sense as breaking up Microsoft into applications and system software companies (i.e., it makes no sense at all, if the intent was to foster competition). Each company will still dominate its section of the industry, and MSFT shareholders are still going to earn hefty returns on their investments.
