Ira, don't you think that if a competitor raises their head and says "Look, we offered a 3% discount and GSTRF's call rate declined during the trial period", they would be more sure of their success by looking rather at how many extra minutes they gained rather than Globalstar lost. What happens to Globalstar's sales will have only a partial relationship to the 3% discount. Much, much better to look at one's own sales if offering a discount.

Obsession about competitors is a very silly way to sell stuff. I love it when competitors spend their day watching me instead of looking after customers. It's almost worth putting on a show for them specially [though that would waste energy]. Sure, one wants to know generally what competitors are doing, but I always found that customers are the best source of the information which matters. They will say to ICO, "Hey, if you don't cut your minute price, I'm going to buy Globalstar phones". No need for a graph of Globalstar minutes. "Look Mrs Customer, see this graph of Globalstar minutes, it says you have to buy my ICO phone".

Same with the other suggestion about the rebate program.

Excuses for hiding information are the most common response to glasnost. Nice try, but you'll need to come up with a valid objection.

The objection you gave would be a good one for not publishing annual or quarterly reports, ASICs sold and most other information.

Anyway, a competitor only gets the single piece of information on Globalstar's minutes, but that doesn't work in isolation. Maybe Globalstar was doing something at the same time. And what about the effects on other competitors, terrestrial minutes and all.

Sorry, I'm not convinced. Not even a little bit.

Got any other ideas?

Maurice
