Monty,

I believe MSFT is an unavoidable evil. I also use their products. My main points were that:

1) The Judge was (for once) right on target.

2) I had always despised their methods.

That said, I don't believe for a moment that anything the DoJ is going to do to MS is going to be in my best interest. (I don't like big government either)

And Vitas very eloquently demonstrated that the methods I despise are inherent to monopolies, and may also be viewed in a favorable light.

As to the claim that MS has empowered you, regretfully MS products are neither the easier to use, nor the most powerful, but the most widely available. And MS have squelched innovation repeatedly smothering emergent companies with excellent products. (And I'm not talking about IBM here, their only worthy PC product is Laptops)

I insist that MS is too big to get hurt. Things are going to change, but eventually everything will remain the same.

Nice talking to you again after all this time,

theRedDog.

PS: You mentioned OS/2. Did you know that the development o OS/2 was commissioned to MS by IBM? And that after several years of (intentional?) delays IBM finally took over? When that happened, Gates later added many of OS/2 main features into a new Windows, named Windows95. IBM raised a big stink, but MS got away with it. (as always...)

(just a little bit of trivia)

Monty, respectfully disagree with MSFT. They have a lousy product and if not for the recent DOJ rattling their product would be even more buggy.

I fail to understand why I needed to shell out an additional $100 for WIN98 which has minor improvements over WIN95. WIN98 contains all the needed addition which should had been in WIN95 in the first place.

Further why is MSFT hiding various "hooks" which makes application run smoother?

As to IBM oh well they are arrogant SOB's typical of New England as is GE.

As to the PC industry there are two sides to the story

1. IMHO the PC is as unreliable as it can get for a commercial product but it is an excellent hobby product.

2. Unfortunate the PC was sold and it is used as a reliable business or commercial product which it is not.

I am accusing this administration of not taking those steps 6 or 7 years ago. We would had a much better software environment by now and not some buggy & crash prone junk that SUNW (Java) and MSFT sell us.

As a result I spend to many hours each month reboothing and reconfiguring my computer with each item added instead of productive work. The tax dollars were spend to late and inefficient. If they were spend timely I would had earned more and paid more taxes.

As to the ruling it is a blessing as it is a warning to the others.

ORCL, AOL, IBM and SUNW comes in mind. All of them with their own monopoly agenda in one way or another.
