Roger - when it comes to billions of dollars - perhaps trillions - even the most ethical of souls sometimes sell out - the halls of power are great indeed - a lot easier for a 12 division infantry to fight the new netscapes and aol's - than for 1 general to attack a fast bunch of bees - with govt regulation and breakup - bill gates will not have to use business efficiency and freebies to beat out the next barksdale or mcnealy - he will be able to use uncle sam - much easier and cheaper - there were a few to challenge msft - who will challenge the us govt and its regulation?

Give me a break....

Point 1: MSFT's competitors will rue the day they allowed the government to intervene in gyper-competitive IT markets. I like SUNW & AOL but they are making a mistake.

Point 2: The whole world benefited from 1 major OS standard, instead of fragmented standards. OS/2, DR-DOS, etc etc.

Point 3: MSFT is a worldwide exporter star, now the US government has given ammunition for foreign anti-american governments to try to "restrict" MSFT. Absurd

Point 4: The USA is a lawyer-happy country, and that has made you so litigious, that American competitiveness has suffered. there was a BusinessWeek study on this.

Point 5: What is Right ? Huh ? Are you kidding or are you really that uniformed, and shall i say it, naive. If it was not MSFT on top of the heap, but SUNW/AOL or any other consortium, do you think they would have protected their turf any less ?

If the market was fragmented, American & World competitiveness would have been impacted, as software would have to be written for different varieties of OS platforms, delaying and complicating the whole process.

You are very misinformed and naive to think that this is good for the USA. An emboldened Justice Dept., out-of-control is a threat to american competitiveness.

Another thing, what's next ?
Intel ? Why not ?
AOL for ISP/Internet Dominance.
Yahoo for bundling content deals that aggregate companies.
Wal Mart ?
Amazon in 5-10 years ?

Wake up, this is a BIG can of worms. And they still cannot PROVE the customer was harmed. This is not the cigarette industry you know, where they spiked nicotine contents and acted irresponsibly for decades, and KILLED their customers.

Better get some perspective buddy, or you Government will be hobbling "star" companies in the future.

BFN
Jean

tiquer: I couldn't agree with you more. Investment should have some form of conscious.
