I have good reason to believe that your numbers are justified and the "shot" is not "outside".

You expect a 933Mhz based upon process tweaks only. You are ignoring the potential impact of design tweaks.

The Coppermine we see, was obviously rushed into manufacturing for market reasons.It was a complete re-layout.It stands to reason that speed path tweaks generate an extra 10% speed. So breaking the 1GHz barrier with Coppermine on 0.18micron lithography begins to sound realistic.

And if the poly is shrunk further we will be in for much greater speed enhancements. So when will we see all the 1Ghz+ Coppermines ? We could see 1GHz by Q2 2000, if the pressure from AMD Atlon keeps up. Without competitive pressure, Intel may want to hold back the Coppermine speed ramp, to prevent compromising the market for Merced and Willamette. So Process Boys "Tit for Tat" scenario begins to sound plausible.
