John and Thread, I don't get the NY Times, but this week's Circuits had another full-page color advertisement paid for by Microsoft that is pushing WindowsCE devices. I believe a Casio, Compaq and HP handheld was featured along with a special offer for a CompactFlash (CF+) modem by Xircom for only $49.00 with a new device purchase.microsoft.com That is about $100.00 off the list price. You also get a Microsoft CD called "Web on the Go". Windows CE is being pushed very heavily. I know that there will be several competing formats for viewing web pages on handhelds and mobile phones, but Microsoft is putting a lot of muscle behind WinCE as a base platform. I take this as very positive news for SanDisk Shareholders because of the functionality that CF adds to WinCE devices. I also read a recent article that Handspring had a major software glitch and their latest product release is suffering because of it. Some of the orders got bungled (people got two devices, others got only a docking module) and there was a 3 hour wait on their toll free lines. The launch has not been without its problems. As a young company, we have immature systems, and we have experienced several start-up glitches, principally related to some data translation problems as we moved into full shipping status. We believe that we have these problems under control. Please refer to the shipping details section of this web site for further details. These problems, combined with the extraordinary level of demand, also swamped our 888 number. We have added significant number of customer service reps in order to handle this volume, and have seen our call hold times drop dramatically over the last few days.
