That Visor slot uses a standard 68 pin interface...BUT it is wired differently. For instance, the built-in microphone is wired to 2 pins on the 68 pin interface. That slot is a proprietary slot because I'm sure Handspring wants a cut of any products that are introduced for it. Sandisk could probably develop an adaptor for it for CF cards but have to give Handspring a cut of the profits on the module.

Also, it is known that some of the modules being developed for the Visor's slot will probably be Larger than the actual slot- meaning that there will be some sort of overhang or added thickness. I suspect that an MP3/Voice Recorder player module for the Handspring will be such an oversized module, and could also incorporate a CF slot on its own without too much difficulty.

BTW, I have a Handspring Visor on my Christmas Wish List!
