fwiw, i think the portals will not go away or be .50 stocks either. while they have the big caps and the resources, they will work in a frenzy to maintain their positions of power. they will fight to remain part of the commercial channel in all sorts of different ways.

that could be. i am not an expert on YHOO. i haven't studied the co enough. i do know that their entire revenue base is advertising. The model is similar to the yellow pages. Free access, paid for by advertising dollars. I don't think YHOO will ever be a powerhouse of anything except what it is: a search engine (or very BIG yellow pages book). They will likely eventually charge sites to be listed in their database and that will be how they make money (like the yellow pages of today). Other sites will be pay sites that search the WHOLE web.
