I don't have access to cable or Ecite/Athm in my area so I don't know some things about it.
Please tell me, When a customer lives in an area that has ATHM pipe and signs up what ISP do they get? Is there
an ATHM isp? Is it just a connection and the customer picks a start-up page? Is the AT&T isp the one offered? (I
don't think so.. isn't AT&T sellling their ISP?)

Right now, I have clunky old dial up internet. Not even DSL is available. And I can choose prodigy, concentric,
aol, msn, mindspring/earthlink, erols, etc. etc. etc. as my ISP.

What is the name of the ISP when a customer gets their connection through ATHM?

Thanks. Always willing to learn.

athm becomes your isp. try DSL! your local phone company might not have service, but a CLEC like Covad or Northpoint could.

@HOME is the ISP. Usually with the cable co's name in front. My ISP is SHAW@HOME. The software defaults you to an @HOME start up page, however you can easily change your start-up page.. even to AOL.

You can't log onto @HOME's startup page without having the service, but you can get an idea of what its like here:

Rascal,

You might ask yourself why you have so little choice right now where you live. Have you been a captive consumer? Why haven't there been upgrades to your area.........where is that DSL?

If AtHome does come to your area I would bet you DSL will be right on its heals. Now, I wonder why is that? Could there suddenly be competition for your dollars? Who will you choose, your "clunky old dial up internet" or AtHome via cable? What do you think it costs to bring this fast service to your door? Does your town collect taxes to pay for this network to be built? No? Then should they specify who gets to be served by it, how much they should pay for the service, and how the information gets provided to you over this network?

So many questions....so little time. I suggest you do what most of the serious investors in AtHome have done to better understand their investment and the potential of their investment.

Start here:
Message 1748540

I know you'd rather have it in a nutshell to save yourself a lot of time and all, but I find it's always better to research it for myself and then draw my own conclusions from all the information available to me.

And, of course willingness to learn is a big first step!

Good luck with your investments.

Also, forgot to add.......have you been to the @Home home page? It might more easily provide some of the information you are looking for.

Rascal,

@Home is your ISP. Usually, it offers a home page with some local content and some national content. I live in Rhode Island and Cox is the local cable partner. Its online affiliate, OSO.Com prepares a special @Home page which is absolutely dreadful. It has an Entertainment Tonight type feel to it. A typical offering is "101 Dumb Blonde Jokes." Fortunately, it is not too hard to disable the @Home content, and just start up your own browser with your own home page. However, @Home is still your ISP. It's this lack of choice that is muddling the whole conversation. Do I want a fast pipeline? Yes! Do I want some other content company to be my INFORMATION provider? Yes!
