Dowd: a liberal that idolizes super-conservative Robber-Baron monopolists? Sounds like he's a major oxymoron. JMHO

JFD, It is not only success in the marketplace but also an observation of the way things are in the world. The free market economies with some social safeguards (but not excessive) have proved to be the best. Kuwait for example is all free enterprise --ie 10% of the people enjoy over 90% of the wealth. That model is extreme.
That is why i say there have to be some social programs but every once in a while there has to be overhauls to ensure against waste of taxpayers' money.

OK--I admit it. Free market economies without big government is the way to prosperity. Actually, i have come to that conclusion after watching it and participating in it. I was a strong believer in socialism because it seemed like a care for your fellow human being type of system. Now i realize that in the end the free market takes care of people better and leads to prosperity for more people than a socialist system would. I guess i have been listening to economists such as Larry Kudlow on CNBC for too long and of course posters like you.
