Dell Computer (DELL)

Moody's Investors Service upgraded its rating on DELL COMPUTER's senior unsecured long-term debt to A3 from Baa1, and said that the rating outlook is positive. According to Moody's, since the Baa1 rating was last confirmed in April 1998, Dell's size, market share, profitability, and liquidity have grown significantly, while its revenues have become more diversified. Meantime, the computer maker's already low financial leverage has fallen as its debt has remained unchanged. Dell has also outperformed its rivals by most measures of comparison. Intel Corp (INTC)

INTEL CORP soon may be relieved from regulatory scrutiny by the FTC, according to a published report Friday. Citing unnamed sources, USA Today said the FTC, which has been investigating alleged monopolistic practices by Intel for the past two years, is close to dropping its antitrust probe into the Santa Clara, Calif., company. In August, the FTC dropped an official antitrust case it had filed against Intel in June 1998 but continued examining the company's business practices. The report comes the same day a key ruling is expected in Microsoft Corp.'s antitrust trial. (CNNfn)

Intel Corp (INTC)

INTEL CORP has filed with regulators to sell about $20.7 mln in stock it holds of CMGI INC. Intel filed on Nov. 3 to sell 200,000 shares out of an estimated 4 mln shares it holds in CMGI, according to a recent SEC filing. "We're always looking at public market conditions, looking for opportunities to sell part of our investments or all of our investments, and so what we'll do is decrease our stake in some companies to recoup some of our capital and then redirect that back into new investments," said Robert Manetta, a spokesman for Intel. MCI WorldCom Inc (WCOM)

MCI WORLDCOM INC President Bernard Ebbers late Thursday denied his company had done anything wrong when it sold part of its Internet business to CABLE & WIRELESS PLC last year. The UK carrier filed suit in March after buying MCI's Internet assets for $1.75 bln in a divestiture required by antitrust regulators when MCI and WorldCom merged. Cable & Wireless alleged that MCI had not delivered what was promised, including key personnel and customer information, leading to business shortfalls and customer cancellations. Microsoft Corp (MSFT)

TELIGENT INC it has raised $500 mln in new capital through a group of investors that includes Microsoft, in a bid to expand its local broadband networks in this country and abroad. The investor group is headed by MICROSOFT CORP and private equity firm Hicks Muse Tate & Furst Inc. Other investors include Chase Capital Partners, DB Capital Partners and Olympus Partners. (CNNfn)

Microsoft Corp (MSFT)

Although MICROSOFT CORP has taken its fight to preserve its temporary worker policy all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, it has been laying plans for a defeat, according to the Nov. 15 issue of BusinessWeek. The magazine said it has obtained a two-page company presentation entitled "The Plan" that lays plans to convert thousands of the 6,000 temps, some who have worked for Microsoft for more years, to full-fledged employees entitled to full benefits. The presentation said the current situation makes temps ripe for unionization, according to the BusinessWeek story. However, the company refuted the BusinessWeek story. Microsoft Corp (MSFT)

A key ruling was expected in MICROSOFT CORP's landmark anti-trust trial on Friday, sources familiar with the case said. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson had said he would release a ruling on a Friday at 6:30 PM in the "findings of fact" on the case, and those familiar with the situation said the court has said it would be ready today. The ruling would be the first of at least two that Jackson was due to make in the case. Jackson's decision was expected to explain what facts he believed were proven during 76 days of trial. Microsoft Corp (MSFT)

INFONAUTICS INC said late Thursday it signed a deal to provide its electronic library to users of MICROSOFT CORP's online network. Under the deal, users of Microsoft's research and school channel as well as its Encarta encyclopedia service will be able to access Infonautics' database of periodicals, research, and transcripts. Additionally, Microsoft's Encarta service will be accessible from Infonautics' encylopedia.com Web site. (Reuters 04:28 PM ET 11/04/99)
