George Bush Jr said that Musharaff brought stability and that is a good thing. Clinton doesn't think so.

HT Correspondent (Washington, November 6)

STATE DEPARTMENT spokesman James Rubin confirmed here yesterday that
"senior statesman" and former Pakistani Foreign Minister Yakub Khan was
currently in Washington as a special envoy of General Pervez Musharraf to meet
various officials.

(The US has conveyed to Pakistan's military rulers that sanctions would remain in
place and President Bill Clinton would not visit Islamabad until civilian rule was
restored in that country, reports IANS.)

Rubin made it clear that the US would continue to engage with Pakistan on a host
of issues, but there would be no business as usual until a civilian govt was restored
in Islamabad. "In the absence of the restoration, we cannot adjust the requirements
of the section of the foreign assistance law that bans assistance," Rubin clarified.
