How about tech. that would have been here for consumers only msft bought and buried it.

I don't believe we are better off because msft used its muscle. Perhaps will see more law suits from smaller companies. imo

Yes, but it's that one company which is doing the vast majority of the overwhelming (and not doing a very good job of it, I might add).

I just ran into this post reading the mail list for OpenCubit.org, a web site devoted to 'quantum computing'. This post is from Yan Pritzker describing how making a WRONG choice (NT installation) may have lead to complete destruction of the only Quantum Computing simulator on the planet (this planet).

Clearly, WindowsNT *ITSELF* stifles innovation!
