Jamse:

If you have been daytrading for 5 years, then I believe you owe it to yourself to at least try a Direct Access broker. I would suggest you open a relatively small 'test' account and make a dozen or more trades side-by-side with your existing online brokers. Try to get a sense for whether your fills are faster and at better prices (on average) than with the online firms. In addition, you might find the Level II data and graphing to be useful and help your trading.

Overall, I suspect that you will find that a direct access broker will enable you to be more successful than any of your online accounts. However, some people find that this is not true for their trading style. So the best bet is to give a direct access firm a 'test drive' and determine for yourself which works best for you. If you decide to give it a try, be sure to report your experiences back to the thread. Note: Many people on this thread use firms providing Real Tick III trading systems (such as MB Trading and The Executioner) as well as a few other firms, such as CyberTrader. You will likely find any of these to be very good firms to trade with.

Good luck,
-Eric
